logo6I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the New University of Lisbon's Institute of Ethnomusicology (INET-MD/UNL). My research focuses on theoretical and methodological aspects of music as a technology of enchantment.

Previous positions

2009-10 Postdoctoral fellowship at the New Europe College (Bucharest).

Study of the manea, a popular music genre linked to post-communism and the figure of the nouveau riche

2007-08 Ethnomusicology advisor at the pedagogical department of the Cité de la Musique (Paris).

2005-07 Temporary lecturer (ATER) at University Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense.

I developped two series of new lectures: "Introduction to world music" and "What is ethnomusicology?". Some of them can be consulted here. I also gave the following seminars: "Musical transcription", "Classic texts in ethnology", "Investigation methods".

Membership of research groups and professional organisations

Member of the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA).

Member of the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM).

Member of the Administrative board of the French Society for Ethnomusicology (SFE).

In this capacity I co-organised the Society's annual meeting in 2009 (theme: "ethnographies of copyright").

I also designed and maintain the Society's collaborative website.

Member of the CNRS research group "Musique, cognition, sociétés" (2005-08).

Member of the ANR research group Artmap.

Within this context, I developed research on virtuosity as an anthropological concept. I also designed and managed the group's online collaboratory www.artmap-research.com.

2008 Co-organiser of the workshop "Virtuosity: the sublime adventures of technique" (Musée du Quai Branly, 10-11 January)

The goal of this workshop was to explore the connections between virtuosity and related concepts such as difficulty (or ease), prowess, fantasy, genius, competition, and farce. Through a series of case studies, we tried to understand virtuosity as a relational modality between beings and things.
